Although I was born on Easter Sunday, Easter was not celebrated very extensively when I was a child. Family legend has it that Dad had a hard time keeping his mind on the sermon he was preaching that morning ? he kept seeing his wife and new baby in their hospital room instead of the church around him.

Someone told me that because I was born on Easter I would have an Easter birthday every 11 years. I did when I was eleven but never again. Something was wrong with my informant?s calculations. Nevertheless, every year I look at March in my new calendar, just in case.

We have a set of snapshots, taken when my brother Bob and I were little (he about three and I about six) of us with our parents and Grandpa Gleason in the front yard of our ranch house. I suspect they were taken on Easter, as we are all dressed up.

We always had an Easter egg hunt, possibly before we went to town to church.? Mother must have dyed the eggs after we went to bed and put them out before we got up in the morning. After the initial hunt, Bob and I took turns, during the rest of the day, hiding them from each other and finding them all over again. Our front lawn was rarely mowed, and the shaggy grass made perfect nests. Dad raised rabbits, and the neighbors raised chickens and we knew damn well that rabbits didn?t lay eggs.

By the time we were school age we did the dyeing of the eggs on the Saturday before Easter. I think our parents still put them out for us to find. I learned how to make stuffed hard-boiled eggs at a young age. Only eggs that had become badly cracked and dirty from much re-hiding were discarded. Mother also taught us how to blow eggs; they were fragile, but they lasted longer than cooked ones.

I can?t remember much about Easter during our years in Spokane. We usually were invited to dinner out at one of the near-by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps, where Dad ? in his role as district chaplain ? conducted a very simple, non-denominational Easter service.

During my college years at WSC [Washington State College, now Washington State University (WSU)] I had a roommate named Shoupy who was very active in a campus youth group. They organized an Easter sunrise service every year, on the east-facing grassy slope behind Agony Hall, the music building. March sunrises in the Palouse country tend to be rather chilly and sometimes frosty affairs, and the Easter services were not very well attended. I went to support Shoupy and fill out the crowd, but even warmly dressed, I found it a bit of an endurance contest.

When our three girls were little, my husband Joe and I also dyed and hid Easter eggs. We had a big yard with lots of good places for hiding eggs. Our daughters soon took over the job of egg dyeing, usually with packaged dyes from the grocery store, but later we experimented with home-made dyes from onion peels, spinach, grape juice, etc. Sometimes we tied the eggs in rags with interestingly shaped leaves, to imprint a design on them.

I have pictures of the girls in their best dresses, as they hunted for Easter eggs. Kids grow so fast that I made a new set of spring dresses every year and sometimes one for myself. One year my mother-in-law beat me to it and bought them dresses all around. She usually came for dinner on Easter.

At present, we have no little kids to hunt Easter eggs, but my oldest daughter still dyes a few to use for table decorations when she has the family to dinner.

Harris said Tuesday that the Arizona law would disrupt a "cohesive federal immigration policy" that is particularly important in California. She cited a 2011 report by the Pew Hispanic Center that said California has more undocumented immigrants - 2.5 million - making up a greater share of the workforce - 9.7 percent - than any other state. Arizona officials argue that the federal government has failed to police the nation's borders and say their law would aid federal enforcement. But California and other states opposing the law told the Supreme Court that the Arizona statute goes beyond federal law in several respects - making it a crime, for example, to be in the country illegally and to seek work - and would interfere with a uniform national approach to immigration. "Arizona is impermissibly attempting to chart its own course in the identification, apprehension and detention of undocumented immigrants for purposes of expelling them from the state," said the brief, drafted by the New York attorney general's office and signed by Harris and her counterparts in nine other states. Federal law allows states to identify and arrest suspected illegal immigrants, they said - but only with the federal government's advance agreement and direct supervision. And because Arizona cannot force the federal government to deport anyone, the states argued, its law would succeed only in "redirecting undocumented immigrants to other states."

Amazon boss 'finds Moon engines'

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos says he has located the long-submerged F-1 engines that blasted the Apollo 11 Moon mission into space.

In a blog post, Mr Bezos said the five engines were found using advanced sonar scanning some 14,000ft (4,300m) below the Atlantic Ocean's surface.

Mr Bezos, a billionaire bookseller and space-flight enthusiast, said he was making plans to raise one or more.

Apollo 11 carried astronauts on the first Moon landing mission in 1969.

The F-1 engines were used on the giant Saturn V rocket that carried the Apollo landing module out of the Earth's atmosphere and towards the Moon.

They burned for just a few minutes before separating from the second stage module and falling to Earth somewhere in the Atlantic.

Mr Bezos' announcement comes days after film director James Cameron succeeded in his own deep-sea expedition, reaching the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on the planet.

Museum hopes

Announcing the discovery on his Bezos Expeditions website, Mr Bezos described the F-1 as a "modern wonder" that boasted 32 million horsepower and burned 6,000lb (2,720kg) of rocket-grade kerosene and liquid oxygen every second.

"I was five years old when I watched Apollo 11 unfold on television, and without any doubt it was a big contributor to my passions for science, engineering, and exploration," he wrote, confirming that his team had located the engines but without hinting where they might be.

"We don't know yet what condition these engines might be in - they hit the ocean at high velocity and have been in salt water for more than 40 years. On the other hand, they're made of tough stuff, so we'll see," Mr Bezos wrote.

His privately funded team was planning to raise one or more engines, he wrote.

He said he planned to ask Nasa - which still owns the rockets - for permission to display one in the Museum of Flight in his home city of Seattle.

Nasa said it looked forward to hearing more about the recovery, the Associated Press reports.

Other elements of the Apollo missions - including the Apollo 11 command module - are on display in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.

The attempt to raise the F-1 engines is not the first foray into space technology for Mr Bezos.

In 2000 he founded a private space flight firm, Blue Origin, which has received Nasa funding and is working on making sub-orbital space flight commercially available.

It so happened that the task chosen for Sahas's contest suited him perfectly: he was told to cold boot and then bring up the weather in two different cities, and by a stroke of luck he already had two separate weather widgets for San Jose, CA and Berkeley, CA running on his Nexus' home screen. He also had his lock screen disabled, which goes against Google's own security advice but which he says gave him the "split second" edge he needed. The principle of justice, meanwhile, was smothered with lock screens, because Sahas was promptly informed that he'd just been "smoked" by a Windows Phone, even though he'd been quicker. At first he was told that the Windows Phone won because it "displays the weather right there," then he was told it was because both his cities were "in the same state," and finally he just gave up. A Microsoft insider has since tweeted that he'll "make it right" for Sahas, but will it be the kind of right that includes a $1,000 laptop?

As the hype for integrating new information and communication technologies (ICTs) into agricultural value chain projects increases, one of the common questions that ICT4D analysts often try to answer is, who pays for the service ? the poor farmer, the project, the government, or a donor agency?

Payment for information services to farmers is one of the components of a business model for deploying ICT solutions to rural agricultural communities. A business model, however, goes beyond just the cost of the service to the user, to the sources of funding of the service, avenues for income generation, the value of the service to the user, the potential to scale beyond pilot stage, and the capacity to sustain itself after the initial funds runs out. Business models are seen as systems that organizations use to create, deliver, and capture value.

The clip below describes how Rural Universe Network (RUNetwork) uses a voucher system to answer some of these important questions in its bid to bridge the gap between smallholder farming and scientific research.

As you watch, try to identify how RUNetwork creates value to the users of the service; how the system generates revenue for operation; who pays for the services being provided; how is the system being scaled; and how is the service sustained?

The model was successfully tested in 5 different countries and scaled up to 14 communities all over Uganda.
